Is your facility a free-standing building, or is it in a strip mall?*
In general, clients are more attracted to a veterinary clinic that is free standing versus a strip mall. Free standing clinics also generally offer clients' pets the ability to spend time outdoors which is often viewed as a premium service.
Do you own your facility, or do you lease from an independent third party?*
If you own your facility, you are able to make modifications as you see fit to improve the services or general experience you offer to your clients.
How many full-time veterinarians do you have? Count part-time as half.*
The more veterinarians you employ, the higher your revenue potential is, which increases the valuation of your practice.
Do you have a practice manager?*
Having a practice manager alleviates the time that an owner has to spend on the general management of the practice. This generally leads to a more profitable, efficient practice.
How many new clients per month (on average) do you get?*
Consistently generating new clients signifies that a practice is well respected in the area, and is consistently being referred to. This increases the valuation of your practice.
What is the average veterinarian production at your practice? To calculate, take total production from all DVMs, and divide by the total number of FTE DVMs at your practice.*
In general, a practice that has veterinarians that produce at a higher rate is typically valued higher. This is a good indicator that a practice has a large client base and has the ability to consistently fill schedules with appointments.
How much did you grow last year?*
In general, a practice that has seen significant growth in the recent past warrants a premium purchase price.
How much of your revenue is medical related versus ancillary (i.e., grooming, boarding, non-prescription food, etc.)?*
Medical revenue is valued higher than revenue related to ancillary services such as boarding and grooming. As such, a practice that has a higher concentration of medical related revenue will be valued higher in most cases.
As a percentage of revenue, what is your total labor cost between doctors and support staff?*
In general, labor costs between 36% - 44% are considered to be in a reasonable range. A percentage outside of these usually signifies that a hospital is either overstaffed or understaffed, which can lower the valuation of your practice.
As a percentage of revenue, what was your drug and inventory related cost?*
A lower drug and inventory cost is a good indicator of the efficiency of a veterinary clinic. The lower the percentage, the more the practice places a focus on responsible inventory management, which is generally considered to be a positive valuation factor.
What area type is your practice located in?*
The larger your population base, the larger your potential client base is. This increases the valuation of your hospital.
What is the median household income in your practice's location?*
The higher the household income in your vicinity, the more you are able to charge for your services which can increase your potential revenue.
How many competitors do you have within 10 miles?*
The fewer competitors you have, the more clients you can attract to visit your clinic.
